AMP Board Elects Edwin Porter as Board Secretary

COLUMBUS, OH: The American Municipal Power, Inc. (AMP), Board of Trustees elected Edwin Porter, PE, Executive Director of the Department of Infrastructure, City of Hamilton, to the position of Board Secretary at its Jan. 17 meeting.

Porter, who has served as a member of the AMP Board since 2023 and a Board alternate from 2021-2023, also serves on several AMP Board committees, including the Focus Forward, Hydro Power Projects, Member Services, Mutual Aid and Prairie State Projects committees.

“Edwin is an insightful and thoughtful leader who quickly became a valued, contributing member of the AMP Board,” said Jolene Thompson, AMP President/CEO. “We are grateful for his service, guidance and dedication.”

Porter, who was named to his current position in 2021, joined the City of Hamilton in August 2017 as the Supervising Mechanical Engineer in the Department of Infrastructure, Division of Utility Operations. During his time in this role, Porter worked on the drinking water, electric and wastewater treatment plants, managed a team of engineering and maintenance staff, and managed projects throughout the city.

In his current role, he is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operations of the electric, water, wastewater, storm water, natural gas, broadband, streets, and traffic systems within the City. He is passionate about identifying and implementing innovative ideas, processes and programs to eliminate waste, maximize efficiency and develop a culture of continuous improvement.

Porter started his professional career in 2005 working for Balfour Beatty Construction in Lakeland and Bradenton, Fla., before joining CH2M Hill, an international design engineering and consulting firm, in 2007. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of Cincinnati and holds a professional engineering license in the states of Ohio, Iowa, Louisiana and West Virginia. He is a past president of the Cincinnati Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and served several years on the Board of Governors.
